Through this blog I’ll provide resources for writers trying to publish their short stories, find an agent, or place a novel with a publisher. It took an embarrassing number of attempts to find the publisher for my novel, so I thought it might be helpful to other beginning writers to compile some of the resources I drew from to get Random House to take pity on me. While I was writing and selling Finny, I wished that all of this information were in one place, so I’m going to do my best to accomplish that here.
The idea of this blog is to create a kind of journal of my publication process. The purpose is not to talk about myself – riveting as that would be – but to share experiences that could be useful for writers in similar situations. Even though some of these topics and resources are discussed elsewhere on the internet, my feeling is that readers of this blog will get something special out of seeing the whole narrative of one writer’s bumbling trip to publication.
I’ll update the blog weekly. If you have any questions (about how to write a query letter or where to find lists of magazines or what kind of hair product I’m using), feel free to get in touch through my email address, email@example.com, or through my Facebook page. I’ll respond as soon as I can, and will post the responses I think will be useful to others.
I hope that sharing some of my experiences and the dazzling amount of blunders I’ve made will be helpful and heartening to other writers.
